The longest journey by scheduled public transport in a single country is 61,445 km (38180.15 mi) and was achieved by Sumit Gupta (India) in Delhi, India from 11 September 2021 to 5 December 2021.

It took a lot of planning and effort for Sumit to create a route for 61,445 km journey. "India is a vast country. So, I utilized the humongous railways and roadways network of India.. I knew that few states of India like Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu et al have very good State Roadways buses network. So, I planned my Bus travel mainly in these states. Also, there are 4 major train stations in India – Delhi (Capital as well as my birthplace), Mumbai, Howrah and Chennai. Most of the trains to all over the country ply from these 4 important stations. So, I planned my trains accordingly from these 4 stations to get the maximum output while adhering to the GWR guidelines." Sumit started preparation almost a year before the commencement of his journey. "My maternal grandfather Late. Mr. Ram C Gupta worked as an Accounts Officer in Indian Railways. I believe that the travelling genes of him were passed onto my mother which later passed onto me which made me passionate about travelling in Railways as well as Buses."
