The fastest time to complete a marathon in orbit by a male is 3 hours, 35 minutes and 21 seconds and was achieved by astronaut Tim Peake (UK) running on a treadmill, on the International Space Station, with the support of a team of engineers at the European Space Agency in Cologne, Germany, on 24 April 2016.

The record was monitored from the European Space Agency in Cologne, Germany.Tim's running pace ranged from 7.5 to 8.9 miles per hour. Tim never showed any fatigue during the 42.195 km despite having to be weighed down with harnesses to counteract the weightlessness in the ISS. Tim started off the marathon when the space station was over the Pacific Ocean and he was over Europe when he finished, having traveled around the world 3 times during the marathon at a speed of over 17,000 miles per hour. At the end of the marathon Tim said "This said that it was a fantastic day!".
