The first ascent made in winter of K2, the world's second-highest mountain (8,611 m; 28,251 ft), was achieved on 16 January 2021, when a total of 10 Nepalese climbers reached the top.
The Nepalis joined forces from other expeditions to make a bid for the summit, despite hurricane-force winds and temperatures that dipped to -65°C (-85°F). They sang their national anthem as they reached the top.
