The best-selling first-person shooter (FPS) series is Call of Duty, published by Activision-Blizzard (USA). On 30 October 2024, Activision-Blizzard said that the Call of Duty franchise as a whole had sold more than 500 million copies since the release of the original Call of Duty on 29 October 2003. On an earnings call on the same day, they confirmed that the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (Treyarch, 2024) was "the biggest Call of Duty release ever" and set a record for day one players for the series.
There have been 20 main-series Call of Duty games (21 if the 2016 remastered edition of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is included).
The original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Infinity Ward, 2007) is the most critically acclaimed of the series, with a rating of 94 out of 100 according to review aggregator Metacritic.
