First tactical shooter videogame based on a novel

Developed by author Tom Clancy through his own games company, Red Storm, 1998’s Rainbow Six is the first tactical shooter to be based on a novel. The game was intended to be released at the same time as the novel, but Clancy was delayed in finishing the book and so the game came out first. The book features several significant plot differences, as parts of the story were revised after the game had been completed. Featured in Guinness World Records Gamer''s Edition 2010
