The shark with the largest eyes relative to body size is the aptly-named bigeye thresher shark Alopias superciliosus. This species' eyes have a diameter of up to 4 per cent of its total body length (up to 4.2 m; 14 ft), which means that only certain birds have proportionately larger eyes among vertebrate species.
