On 5 October 2016, Russia’s Valery Rozov leapt from a height of around 7,700 m (25,262 ft) from Cho Oyu – the sixth-highest mountain in the Himalayas, located on the China/Nepal border. He fell for around 90 seconds before opening his parachute, landing on a glacier approximately two minutes later at an altitude of around 6,000 m (19,685 ft).
It took Rosov and his expedition 21 days to ascend to his take-off point on Cho Oyu. The take-off had been delayed by a week by a heavy snowfall.
This leap broke Rosov's previous highest BASE exit point: in 2013, he jumped from Everest, from an altitude of 7,220 m (23,687 ft).
