The largest display of origami giraffes consists of 18,490 origami giraffes and was achieved by Tiergarten Schönbrunn (Austria) in Vienna, Austria, on 6 May 2015.
The record was organised during the temporary closure for renovation of the historical giraffe enclosure, which opened in 1828. The zoo invited everyone to take partand and offered instructions on how to create an origami giraffe. The response was overwhelming. Many people, schools, origami societies, etc. joined in their campaign by sending or bringing origami giraffes to the zoo. Each origami giraffe was scrutinised and over 2,000 were discarded.
